Summer Meals

Dear Parent/Guardian,

Summer is coming soon and you may be thinking about what your child will do for meals while school is out. The good news is that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) partners with organizations in your local community to serve free meals through the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP). It’s food that’s in, while school is out. There are no income requirements, and any child age 18 and younger may come to eat.

Free meals, that meet Federal nutrition guidelines, are provided to all children at approved SFSP sites in areas with significant concentrations of low-income children by schools, private nonprofits and local or county government organizations.

Unfortunately, we are not operating the SFSP this summer; however, SFSP feeding sites are located throughout the state of Arizona. They offer a combination of breakfasts, lunches, snacks, and suppers. In some rural areas, these meals may be delivered or picked up. To find a participating site near you, please visit https://www.azhealthzone.org/freesummermeals/ or text “Food” or “Comida” to 304-304. Summer Electronic Benefit Transfer Program (Summer-EBT/SUN Bucks) provides grocery-buying benefits to low-income families with school-aged children who lose access to free or reduced-price school meals when schools are closed for the summer. To see if your child is eligible for $120 and information on how to apply, please visit https://www.azed.gov/SUNBucks or call the SUN Bucks hotline at 833-648-4406.

Hope you have a healthy and fun summer – thank you!

Sincerely,

Amy Andrade - Nutrition Coordinator
