Curriculum in P.E. has different focuses for early elementary, upper elementary, and middle school. Our youngest students will work on basic movement patterns, gross motor skills, fine motor skills, and the foundations of teamwork and fair play. As they get older, the class will focus on perfecting skills from the younger grades while branching into team sports.
We provide a structured general music appreciation program for all grade levels. Exposure to a variety of musical styles, movement, production and performance, creativity and self-expression drive this program.
Art at Hearn Academy is highly stimulating for all ages. Our school utilizes a hands-on and rich art curriculum taught by a certified and very talented teacher. Students are introduced to art techniques and projects that reflect world cultures, art appreciation, as well as a unique blend of aesthetic mediums. Art appreciation and exploration of materials and self-expression are highlights of this exemplary class for K-8 students.
Students will learn fundamental operations and concepts, use technology tools to enhance learning, increase productivity, and boost creativity. Regular lessons in digital citizenship and cross-curricular activities to enhance classroom-based instruction are important aspects as well.
Kindergarten students begin the introduction to a foreign language with Spanish. Hearn emphasizes global understanding and supports foreign language as a meaningful opportunity for students to be introduced to an entirely new language that engages the right-brain. Young learners are guided by communication with music, written characters and by exploring world culture. Lessons are taught using games, songs, and visual aids.
Math Enrichment is an opportunity to practice higher-order thinking and hands-on skills in math. Each grade level K-8 is offered a class that is taught by a math certified teacher engaging students in interactive learning. Students are given the opportunity to problem solve and think critically. This is fundamental to gaining the skills and knowledge to solve problems and apply math to everyday life. Puzzles, games, and problem solving are modeled and students demonstrate abilities to work problems above grade level. A growth mindset is the basis for math enrichment.
